The ask: Develop a digital presence for an NGO with emphasis on social media brand expansion.
The NGO chosen was Oceans Alive, which is an organisation whose aim is to reduce ocean plastic waste. The social media brand campaign was for their community building initiative. The initiative employs community members to collect plastic waste which is then converted to plastic pellets known as Resin8. Resin8 is combined with concrete to create bricks that can be used as a building material. This initiative is three-fold: it reduces plastic waste present in the community, it creates jobs for unemployed community members and it creates a building material from a waste product.
The Oceans Alive community building initiative required a logo design and brand identity. The social media campaign focused on raising public awareness around the purpose of the initiative and why it is a worthwhile cause to support.
The logo design combined the spiral from the existing Oceans Alive logo with a brick shape using the "C" and "B" which represents "community building". This created a pleasing and meaningful logo emblem that can be used alone as well as with the logo text. The logo text was arranged in a circle shape to emphasise the circular economy that this initiative creates.
